At 7.45am this morning, a whale was reported to be tangled in Shark nets off Kirra Beach. The Sea World Research & Rescue team, along with QLD National Parks & Wildlife Services (QNPWS) headed out to find a juvenile Humpback whale with netting tangled around its head and right pectoral fin. It was a difficult rescue as the whale had a tendency to stay underwater. Rescue boats worked to pull the whale up out of the water, while the rescue teams cut the net from around the whale. The rescue took approximately 1 hour and the whale swam off strongly.
