At 84 years, he started primary school... Last week, a pretty awesome story cropped up on Googles Kenya homepage. It honoured a man, Kimani Maruge, believed to be the oldest person to have enrolled in primary school. Kimani didnt have an easy life. Before the Kenyan Government’s introduction of free primary education in 2003, millions of Kenyans simply couldnt afford to go to school. In 2008, Kimanis belongings were stolen from his home during Kenya’s post election violence, forcing Kimani and his four kids, 19 grandchildren and one great-grandchild to flee to a displacement camp with thousands of others. He didnt let that stop him. Aged 84, Kimani walked through the school gates for the first time. He dreamed to read. He loved to learn. Kimani continued his education until he passed away in 2009. Its never too late to start that dream.
