At BHS we get a very small snapshot of an animals life, and with that snapshot have to make the best educated guess we can as to what the animals perfect match would be. And admittedly, sometimes, we can be wrong (hey match makers are human, too). Its not unheard of that a dog we thought wouldnt be compatible in a home with other dogs, ends up going home and doing great with a canine friend, etc. We love stories like this, where we hear the animal is so happy and comfortable that they finally opened up with their new families and showed their true personalities. With that said, we ask our friends that come in looking for a four-legged match to keep in mind that we are trying to do everything we can to ensure a forever home, and yes we do err on the side of caution at times. Cue Lacey. Her history is that she was growly and not tolerant with other animals in a home. Due to this, and behavior we observed while at the shelter, we recommended she be the only pet. But after some time of slowly introducing her in a positive way to other dogs - we had a major breakthrough yesterday morning. We found her a very neutral playmate who at first (not shown in the video) allowed her to approach him at her own speed. After a few minutes of the introduction not going as hoped, and staff silently thinking to themselves what to do next, Lacey gave her doggy friend the biggest - loosest - wiggliest play bow. This girl hit the floor tail wagging and was ready to play. After a few more minutes of cautious introductions, heres what happened. PS- yes, they played for a good 45 minutes after the video ended until they were both super tired. We think, depending on the dog and the ability of her new family to supervise and manage the home environment, Lacey definitely could be a match for you if you have other fur-family members in the home. :)
