At President Mas endlessly delayed international press conference yesterday, conducted entirely in Mandarin Chinese, no international reporters were allowed to ask questions. The one non-Taiwanese reporter allowed to ask a question - from a major Hong Kong English-language daily - wondered if her Mandarin accent was no good, because Ma didnt seem to understand her question, much less address it. The farce continues, as, according to latest TV news reports (ERA, FTV, SET), 700k people have already joined peaceful demonstrations in front of the ROC Presidential Office-- over 3% of the entire islands population. Proportional to population, if this was the US, there are over 9 million people in front of the White House. If this was China, there are over 36 million people in Tiananmen, and growing.
