At Worlds End today and probably somewhat much the same as it was in 1609 - At the southern end of Martyrs Reach navigation charts show a sharp curve in the river marked Worlds End. The sounding point is 216 feet, the deepest spot in the Hudsons 315 mile course from the Adirondack Mountains to the sea. Here on the river bed, under three centuries of accumulated silt, lie the bones of hapless sailors and the rotted hulls of round-bottomed sloops that never arrived at their ports of call. - Chapter 1 - Worlds End - The Hudson River Highlands, Frances F.
