At Young Israel today, Mitchell Barak, an Israeli pollster, - TopicsExpress

At Young Israel today, Mitchell Barak, an Israeli pollster, presented some interesting findings of his: 1. 55% of Jews in Israel identify themselves first as Jews and 45% as Israelis first According to him, based on the finding of this poll, an answer to almost any other poll dealing with issues in Israel can be accurately predicted. 2. 72% percent of Israelis are most concerned and are upset by increased military casualties in a military conflict (such as thelast Lebanon War) while only 7% are equally concerned/upset by civilian casualties as part of the same conflict. Mr. Barak refers to this as Israeli military inferiority as Israeli army cannot root out terrorist cells with expectations of low casualties. 3. There is a practice in Israel to take visiting foreign dignitaries to Yad Vashem museum. Some believe they should be taken to Mount Herzel where many of Israeli soldiers are laid to rest, as it better representation of modern Israel. 70% support the current practice (Yad Vashem) and only 14% believe otherwise (Mount Herzel) Mr. Baraks opinion is that support for current practice stems from Israelis feelings of isolation, the world is against us, etc. Pundits (Boris D. Maslovsky Igor Stavnitser Max Stesel Gregory Vayl Eitan Divinsky) care to comment?
