At a 5-star film festival (first annual!) on my little island, - TopicsExpress

At a 5-star film festival (first annual!) on my little island, Friday through Sunday, I saw 16 documentary films, all but one of them thumbs up! Both thumbs WAY, WAY up: The Whale - the beautifully and sensitively told story of Luna, a young Orca who sought human companionship after being separated from her family pod. Black Wave - a compelling review and update, showing the effects of the Exxon Valdez oil spill on people, the land, and the sea - then (1989) and now, 20 years later. The Tsunami and The Cherry Blossom - with great compassion and hope, this film documents both the horror of the Tsunami, and the spirit of renewal found by Japanese people in the lovely blossoming of the cherry trees a few months later. Shining Night - If you want to feel whole and peaceful, joyful deep in your heart, this film, winner of the audience award for best film of 24 shown at the festival, documenting the music of composer, Morten Lauridsen, is the one to see! Thumbs down: Kon-Tiki, 2012: This re-telling of the voyage on a raft 5,000 miles across the Pacific by Thor Heyerdahl is full of gratuitous blood, storm, sharks, and inaccuracies. Get the original documentary by Heyerdahl or read his book! Why not join us in Friday Harbor for next years Film Festival?!!!! Heres the website: fhff.org/
