At a time like this many people think about the poppy and remember - TopicsExpress

At a time like this many people think about the poppy and remember the past, which rightly or wrongly, is a great thing. The people that passed made our lives the way the are. Tonight, Rachel Start and I had the pleasure of attending the Poppy Dinner at the British Embassy in Riyadh as the guests of the British Military Mission and Brigadier Peter Dennis. Whilst the words from Brig. Dennis were well chosen and very meaningful, the highlight of the evening was talking to a current service man, a WO1 from the Royal Logistics Corps. Now most people who know the military, know where this is going, but for those who have never spoken to this type of person, have missed an amazing story. Yes, he is a Bomb disposal tech, 22 years putting his life at risk and living life every day. 10 week from today (well yesterday at the time of writing) he will retire but what an incredible person to speak to. Whilst a solider puts his (or her) life on the line during the course of their duty, he puts his life on the line every time he goes to work and all to save other peoples lives. I have to say his humble attitude and calmness speaks of the people that do this job! Whilst we remember the past, please remember the current and future men and women that risk their lives so we can live ours!
