At a time when all my people, Assyrians are fleeing the country they are indigenous to...its with a heavy heart that I thank my parents for leaving Iraq when they did, who were on a quest for the American dream. A country free of religious persecution. And it could not have been possible if it were not for the sacrifices of our servicemen and women. The sacrifices they made, make and will continue to make to keep this great nation going. Independence Day. I know what it means to me. God Bless America. My prayers are in my homeland, saddened they have to flee...but hopeful they can go somewhere where they can finally free, like me.
