At about age 50, my brother Matthew (Who never gets on Facebook) decided he wanted to learn to play guitar and sing...and perform in public. Hes been going at it for a few years. This afternoon, I heard him play for the first time, and I was very surprised. His voice is far better than I expected. He has a guitar teacher and a voice coach and said he has been working hard on his singing for the past several months. Accompanying himself on guitar, I heard him sing, Wholl stop the Rain (Creedence), After the Gold Rush (Neil Young), Blaze of Glory (Kenny Rodger originally), and Fields of Athenry (Irish tear-jerker). When he stood up with the guitar and was about to sing, I had some kind of strange anxiety; I was about to see another side of someone Ive always known, but a persona of which I never knew existed, and I didnt know what to expect. He says his next milestone will be do do some one mikes.
