At approximately 4:45 this morning, officers were dispatched to an alarm call at a convenience store in the 3300 block of Texas Boulevard. When the officers arrived, they discovered that the building had been broken into. Officers were able to view video from the business’ surveillance system and observed three suspects jump over the counter and steal multiple cartons of cigarettes before fleeing the scene. Officer J.B. Johnson was in the 3400 block of New Boston Road about thirty minutes later, and he observed a light green SUV circling the area. Officer Johnson stopped the vehicle and made contact with the driver, who identified himself as John Willeford, 23, of Texarkana Texas. During that traffic stop, the officer discovered evidence from the Texas Boulevard burglary in the vehicle. Officers then located Kevonte Smith and Rodricus Townsend, both 17 and from Texarkana Texas, walking in the immediate area. All three were positively identified from the surveillance video as the suspects in the earlier burglary. The three were arrested and taken to jail. The investigation has revealed that these men were also involved in several recent burglaries in neighboring jurisdictions. Their apprehension has led to the recovery of several of the items taken in those burglaries.
