At approximately 9:50 a.m. this morning, Erath County dispatch received a call reporting a large brush fire in the Strawn/Mingus area (shown in the maps, north of I-20 in Erath County). The caller reported heavy smoke and flames seen in tree tops. Units from Erath County Volunteer Fire Rescue, Oak Dale VFD, Huckabay VFD and others were dispatched to the area. Upon arrival, units reported driving through heavy fog and what appeared to be smoke, but they were unable to locate the fire. Upon further searching, fire officials discovered an area on a local ranch where controlled burns were active in Eastland County. Erath County officials are using this incident to remind residents to always report controlled burns to your local officials so that taxpayer dollars arent wasted tracking down these burns.
