At home, Ive always done my sadhanas without the recordings. I downloaded Dakini Prayers some time ago, and just recently re-booted my Vajrayogini practice. So today my place shows acute signs of entropy, and I thought Id put on Dakini Prayers while I was purifying the environment. I did this sort of thinking it was a no-no; I think I remember Gen-la Dekyong discouraged us from playing sadhanas to go to sleep (though its a really nice way to go to sleep). If she did indeed say that, I think I understand why. I found that having a sadhana playing the background doesnt work, at least not for me. This is a crude analogy, but its like jazz: you really have to pay attention to it to get anything out of it, and having it on in the background just seemed vaguely disrespectful. Im curious to know how others feel about this. I dont think its anything one should necessarily make a rule out of it, but it brings up some interest questions about concentration.
