At last a Pope has something sensible to say.....I think he absolutely correct when he says that there are limits to free speech. We cant simply say whatever we want to say whenever we want to say it....there are limits to free speech and those limits are sometimes governed by law. We cant run into a cinema and shout FIRE that would be against the law....we cant verbally incite riot or murder.....there are many common sense instances when free speech is curtailed. That is why I think it was wrong of Charlie Hebdo to put out an edition with cartoons of Mohammed on the cover. First...why should a religion not complain when its guiding light is ridiculed particularly when the reproduction of images of the prophet are seriously frowned upon. Even moderate Muslims are insulted...they wont kill anyone but why deliberately upset them simply to make a point? Is it any wonder then that extremist Muslims ( probably shouldnt call them Muslims) take such severe actions...why rub their nose in it?? Making a point is one thing but this stubborn middle finger being shown to all Muslims is simply not helping the situation and is the proverbial red rag to a bull. It may be that the Christian religion is, in the main, a lot more accommodating to those who choose to pillory Christ but that is no excuse for doing the same to a religion with stronger, more sensitive values. I am no fan of any religion but I am also no fan of bullying. To do what CH have done this week is, to my mind, a form of bullying.
