At last count..... 97 registered volunteers for the DOUBLE ISLAND clean up weekend! Thats HUGE. and well get a few stragglers and people who are already up there or going anyway which well hand a bag or two. (pics are from May 3/4 this year) Thankyou to you all for registering to take part in Surfrider Foundation Australias largest beach clean up event! FYI There will be 2 stations for picking up of collection bags, gloves, ferry vouchers and additional info etc. First point will be at The Ferry Line up (near Parks info Centre) at Tewantin between 6am and 9am saturday morning. The second point will be at Event site situated on beach at Little Fresh Water Creek. (Far northern end of camping area). This will be open all day saturday and Friday evening. TIMELINE: SATURDAY 5AM-9AM The Registered Clean Up volunteers arrive throughout the morning and are greeted by the Surfrider volunteers with info direction and bags. Free to start cleaning up anywhere they see ft along the 60km stretch of beach. Or set up camp then start During the day Beach Clean Up. Extra bags available from the Surfrider marquee at the campsite (refer to map over page) – Remember 1x full bag of rubbish = 1x raffe ticket 200PM-300PM, Start wrapping it up and head for Base Camp at Little Freshwater. Photos of the mountain of marine debris with all the volunteers for post event media and future awareness campaigns and promotions. 400PM MEGA Prize Raffe draw, Group discussion on the future health & sustainability of “D.I.”, BBQ, photo session & Live Music Onwards Few Beers, Surfng, Enjoying camping with everybody involved. Whatever, its YOUR weekend!! SUNDAY Volunteers / beach lovers welcomed to continuing cleaning Surfrider Foundation, QPWS, a group of environmental scientists and supporting volunteers will analyse and databasing the haul of rubbish and dispose rubbish in extra skips provided and/or with QPWSs tipper truck.
