At last night’s Star Party skies started clear above (zenith), a patch towards SW and the East. Around 9:45pm to 10:00pm clouds shut down viewing so some of us sat around until around 11:15pm discussing politics, which is never a good idea. In future events held by AAC we all should refrain from discussing politics and religion. I believe we did come to the conclusion that both right and left are full of it. Before sunset Andy did show the Suns prominences and sunspots with AACs PST solar telescope. Andy decided to check out the telescope and tripod for the next month or two. Lisa was first to spot both Mars and Saturn. Saturn and its moon Titan looked spectacular. I never get tired of looking at Saturn. Andy was able find M57, the Ring Nebula, which looked like a tiny smudge. M13, the best globular cluster in the Northern hemisphere, looked very nice in both Lisa and Andy’s telescope. We did see a few more sky denizens but nothing to write home about. We had two new members show up last night. Jerry Johnson a retire high school astronomy teacher and Mark Kelly from North Carolina who due to his job, he will be commuting every month from North Carolina to Florida for the next 3 years. Mark brought his 4” Celestron telescope on a Newtonian mount. His spotting scope battery was dead and no one had an extra one for him so he gave up spotting sky objects. I appreciate both of them for showing up and hope we see more of them in future meetings, outreach events and other star parties. For great skies they may have to wait until September or October but you never know. I like to congratulate both Andy and Kristin Williams. Kristin will be a mother to another Andy in 7 months. I want to thank all members that showed up last night including one visitor. Margarita Quinteros and daughter Lizzy Cordero Andy Williams, wife Kristin Williams and their guest. Mary Lou McGaughran Mark Kelly Jerry Johnson Lisa Eager Member don’t forget to track your volunteer hours on OurVolts. If all members track hours for star parties, school, outreaches and monthly meetings we will be able to show how our clubs members volunteer their time to the community to promote involvement in the sciences. Members that showed up to Saturdays Star Pary at NSP post your hours on ourvolts below. ourvolts/user [1] Cheers, Ivo Rabell Star Party Coordinator
