At least 17 people died when a boat carrying hundreds of migrants sank in waters between Libya and southern Italy, navy officials have said. Some 200 others were rescued from the boat, which went down south of the Italian island of Lampedusa. On Monday, it emerged that 36 migrants drowned last week when their boat sank off the Libyan coast. Most refugees are from Eritrea, Syria and Sudan, but also other people from other African countries. Libyan government says the situation is urgent and needs help from the EU. about 30,000 boat refugees have come to Italy so far this year which is a record high. This also allows the far-right parties in the EU is growing stronger.
