At least four suspected members of the New Peoples Army (NPA) were killed in Apayao province on Friday following a clash with joint the military and police. According to operation team leader Senior Inspector Rafael Tangonan, their group engaged at least 10 NPA members at 6 a.m. Friday morning. The clash killed four rebels. No casualties were reported on the government side. The incident allegedly stemmed from the report of residents of Barangay Calayucay in Luna town that a group of heavily armed men were allegedly extorting from them. Authorities recovered an M16 rifle, an UZI machine pistol, a caliber .38 revolver, two shotguns, two hand grenades and various ammunition. —Andrei Medina/NB, GMA News
