The inflammation of the pancreas was so severe and has gone on so long that the stomach has decided to stop working. Consequently it is full of fluid which is causing other issues. In addition there is fluid surrounding the stomach which needs to go, but will probably not go until she can be more mobile which is hard to be when your stomach is the size of a small watermelon and you are in pain. So, tomorrow they will insert two tubes into her stomach. One to drain the stomach and get rid of the bulk in her gut which is putting pressure on her lungs, etc. The other will be a feeding tube. In a few weeks of this treatment her stomach may decide to start working again. With lots of luck this will work. She may be able to go home mid-next week and I will get to see how good a nurse I can be. I will be administering O2 and feeding her through a drip into the tube in her small intestine. Think pleasant thoughts for Ginny and include her in your prayers for a quick and complete recovery.
