At lunch, after I visited the chickens and took the picture of Vinnie mesmerized by a branch, I went to check to see if TC was still sitting on eggs. SHE IS! They routinely remove all of the bedding from the nest box, so I carefully moved her over and moved the egg over and replaced the bedding of shavings and straw. I put the egg in the middle of the nest. TC stood and watched me, whistling softly and making tiny chicken noises. When I was finished. She crept slowly into the nest and softly tapped the egg with her beak. I told her No! Dont peck it!! She kept examining the egg and then used her beak to pull it out of the nest and she tucked it under her breast feathers. I gently took it back and put it in the nest. She pulled at the straw for a little bit and then ran out of the coop. Ill check her again when I get home. Cochins are such friendly chickens and TC is exceptionally friendly. Im not surprised that she didnt get upset when I moved the egg out from under her. When I first tried to take her off the nest to see if there was an egg, she went from weighing 2 pounds to 200 and somehow velcrod her feet to the floor of the nest box. Thats when I just reached under and took the egg. I really hope shes broody. Shes so sweet that shell make a terrific momma!
