At precisely 1 pm yesterday I put my hands up in the hallway of my school as I walked to pick up my students. As we walked away from the art room many students put their hands up as well. They had to walk the hall with their hands up before when they had paint all on them, so they probably thought I was just recreating that scene. Anyway,I walked almost the whole length of the school with my hands up and kept them that way as I stood in front of my classroom. Some co-workers didnt understand. Some thought I was clowning-as I tend to do sometimes. It didnt matter. I knew what I was doing and what I was doing it for. And that was all that mattered. I couldnt walk out but I could at least put my hands up in solidarity. I could at least pay homage to all those who did walk out, all of those who have put so much on the line in protest, and to all those who have lost their own lives or lost loved ones. I stand with you in my own way. Peace and power.
