At the 1970 NHRA Nationals in Indianapolis, the Top Fuel final was between Don Snake Prudhomme and Jim Nicoll. Just as the cars crossed the finishline at 220mph, Nicolls clutch exploded, cutting the car in half, with the frame rails and motor continuing down the track. The drivers cage, with Nicoll still straped inside, bounced wildly over the guard rail and across the grass, coming to rest near the parking lot. Nicoll survived, unbelievably, with minor injuries. The first picture is the original 1970 accident scene, showing Nicolls drivers cage sitting in the parking lot. The second picture, shows Nicolls original drivers cage today, hanging in the ceiling of a small garage in Garland, TX. The only part of Nicolls 1970 T /F car to survive the accident.
