At the Bedford International Games, two teenage Huntingdonshire AC sprinters proved themselves to be the next generation of young guns at the club. Receiving invitations to compete in this prestigious meet, both Owen King and Owain Collard rose to the occasion. Running in the same heat, and with the maximum allowable wind speed of +2.0 mps, Owen finished 4th in 11.30 secs, reducing his previous electronic best by a huge 0.29 secs and qualifying for the final. His time compares favourably with the club record of 11.0 secs, a manual timing which equates to 11.24 secs using electronic timing. Owain Collard, who beat Owen in the Under 17 Mens 100m county championship race just a week earlier, had to settle for sixth place on this occasion but nevertheless brought his personal best down from 11.48 to 11.36. In the final, Owen finished 6th in 11.39 with a +1.3 mps following wind. With Owen and Owain training and racing together under the coaching scrutiny of Richard Phelan, the future of Hunts AC sprinters looks bright.
