At the Citizen Bond Committee meeting last night, we found out - TopicsExpress

At the Citizen Bond Committee meeting last night, we found out that the 2015 bond package is getting closer to $300 million to accommodate the growing needs of Frisco, and most likely many items will be cut. Yesterday the Frisco Fire Department Chief Mark Piland shared about the needs for the department to maintain their strong ISO Rating of 1, a designation which only 40 cities in the US have. Their department alone is asking for close to $53 million. I will be presenting on Dec. 15th regarding funds for a facility for the performing arts in Frisco. The biggest argument will be whether or not the arts is a frill, a want and not a need, and whether there is any public value. If there is no public value for the arts, guess what will be cut first from the bond package? We have no chance of being included in this rising package unless we can show what the arts can do for the community, not the other way around. The arts is not just sprinkles on a cupcake; it can be the main course, the fine, aged steak that draws people to Frisco and helps drives the creative economy, becoming a cultural tourism magnet. We need to have a vision of what it can be, not just a fear of what it is not.
