The 1.14km long and 55m wide bridge spans the Duong River and links Long Bien district and the suburban district of Dong Anh. It was built entirely by Vietnamese engineers. Speaking at the opening ceremony, Deputy Prime Minister Hoang Trung Hai highlighted the significance of the highway project which will serve as a key transport artery facilitating the development of urban and industrial areas in the northern part of the Red River Delta. Once completed, the extended highway will greatly ease the burden on roads to western and northwestern provinces, and strengthen the capital’s economic linkages with other localities. The project is carried out in accordance with the capital’s Master Plan for Development for 2020, approved by Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung. It was started in 2005 with a total length of 13.32km and width of 68.5m, worth approximately 6.6 trillion VND (314 million USD). The Dong Tru bridge is among three ones on the highway.-VNA
