At the Montclair municipal council meeting last night a citizen - TopicsExpress

At the Montclair municipal council meeting last night a citizen addressed the leaf blower noise ordinance. It was easy to tell that the tall, stout gentleman, his thick, powerful forearms smudged with weatherworn tattoos, was no stranger to hard work. “I’m an Italian from the Fourth Ward,” he began, his shout-out to his old hood garnered a smattering of applause. When I grew up we were black, white, whatever. We all got along and nobody was treated any different. He went on to complain that some landscapers were allowed to flout the ban while others received summonses. “That’s discrimination,” he bellowed. “That is landscaper discrimination.” “Well, I don’t know if that’s quite…er…“ The mayor stammered as he searched for just the right phrase. “Is that not discrimination? The Fourth Ward Italian interjected. That’s landscaper discrimination and it’s not right!” Donna, the woman next to me, whose last name I wont mention (it rhymes with any who), turned and whispered, “This reminds me of that movie about a secret relationship that society didn’t approve of.” “Jungle Fever?” I asked. She shook her head. “Topiary Whooping Cough.’ The sad saga of a man and his leaf blower.” True story. Yeah, I know. Blame the Montclair public school system.
