At the Planning Commission meeting tonight, I took down the following notes and took away quite a few big points (when I take down and share notes, I do so as unbiased as possible so I may not have the exact details everyone wants and I encourage you to reach out to your city officials for those): -Curtis Lang is proposing mixed use for the White Property (the vacant lot across 264th from Pro Tow) and would like the portion facing 169 to have 3 tax parcels for commercial use. The back portion would host 200 multi-family units and build as tall as 3 stories. They used the Echelon Community in Gig Harbor as a reference for how the units would look (echelonapts/) Reminder: This is just a proposal just like the potential 144 units behind Safeway. Nothing has been approved. -Curtis Lang is also asking for a potential rezoning of 35 acres of the Brandt property to be R-24 & R-8 (It is currently SC). He would be interested in building possibly a 55+ community and some additional single family homes in hopes to bring more activity to the businesses in the north end. If you are not familiar with Curtis Lang, he is a high end developer who has been in Maple Valley for 30 years. curtislangcustomhomes/ -The Planning Commission wants to meet with the Economic Development Committee VERY SOON to discuss best uses for the properties available throughout Maple Valley. There was some concern expressed by certain members of the commission regarding adding any residential growth. -The land use portion of the Comp Plan will begin being discussed at a special meeting on January 14th (next Wednesday) at 6:30pm at the Lodge. This will include the employment center, technology center and town center. -There was a presentation by our City Clerk, Shaunna Lee-Rice, regarding the Open Public Records Act and Open Public Meetings Act and it helped to clarify how city officials and commissioners handle public information and how both citizens and city officials can dialogue.
