At the Southern Shores Town Council Meeting, March 4th, 2014, - TopicsExpress

At the Southern Shores Town Council Meeting, March 4th, 2014, Council member David Sanders had closing comments addressing the level of dissatisfaction expressed by many members of the community about a unanimous vote by the council in favor of eminent domain quick take which was counter to the views of an overflowing audience at the February meeting. He stated that as we are a very diverse town the public may not be aware that different areas of the country handle the flow of government in different ways. He likened Southern Shores town government to a republic and not what most would consider a true democracy. Mr. Sanders, the people in Southern Shores are very well aware of the form of government we have. However, the one thing you are forgetting is that unlike our founding fathers who created the government in this country, were superior leaders and thinkers and were virtually unchallenged, the people in Southern Shores have elected their representatives by a Democratic process with the expectation that their elected officials represent the best interest and wishes of the population that placed them in office. When an entire elected board votes unanimously against the will of the people in a controversial issue such as eminent domain quick take those representatives need to be removed from their seats of authority. There is no republic in the world that would deem the overstepping of government as responsible or ethical.
