At the UFC, Bellator, RFA level it is a MUST that fighters make weight. Amateur wrestlers make their weight every week for matches. If a wrestler doesnt make weight...he doesnt get to wrestle. It is a forfeit for the team and the other team gets 6 points, same a s a pin. Why? because the wrestler failed to make the promised weight...SIMPLE. MMA is a professional sport and rules are rules, weight classes are there for a reason. Every fighter is given ample time to make the weight you PROMISED to make, and is REQUIRED to be professionally sanctioned fight. However, the way it is, fighters still come over weight and are fined a small amount....and if the fighter that made the sacrifice, cut the weight, did the work, weighs in on weight, they may get a small amount of money and a way to go. BUT, if they lose the fight, regardless of making the weight and doing exactly what was expected and promised, they get dropped down the brackets and have to claw their way back up. Meanwhile, the fighter that did not make weight, who may happen to win, primarily because they cheated, lied about there weight and didnt make the effort and came in 5, 7, 8, 9 pounds over weight....they get a slap on the wrist, told you have to make weight next time and then pushed up the rankings. At this point in the game, at the top levels of the sport, where weight is a factor this is ridiculous. At lower level fights where wins and losses are not as crucial then whatever, get the experience and fight. But, when a career is pushed forward or dropped back by the outcome of the fight, this is a big deal. What say you? I would like your opinions -
