At the close of our most recent cycle of Respectful Conversations, we have some numbers to report: A cumulative 1,850+ Minnesotans have participated in 79 conversations designed to build empathy over a host of different divisive topics. 70% reported empathizing with people on the other side of an issue and 84% reported being more aware of a variety of perspectives. But our favorite data comes in quotes from the months-later evaluations: .I believe I am a better listener, and can speak at more appropriate times. .I have tried to carefully listen to opposing viewpoints in some conversations since then, to listen for the experiences that feed into some viewpoints.
