At the current Exposition of the sacred relics of the Saint Francis Xavier the church authorities have strictly banned clicking of any pictures of the Saint as it disrupted the sanctity of the Exposition. The entire sanctity of the occasion is lost. The time has to be spent in prayer before St Francis Xavier and not used in clicking pictures” is what the Church had said while justifying the banning of all photography inside the Church. So why was this rule breached when Manohar Parrikar visited the Church yesterday. Why do these so-called VIPs need special treatment even at the holy shrines when as per all religions every human is equal and even the Constitution of India provides the right to equality? Special treatment for VIPs at religious shrines should be done away with. And ironically it was Manohar Parrikar who during his first tenure as Chief Minister had high-handedly attempted to do away with the holidays on Good Friday and the feast of St Francis Xavier as well. Was he yesterday seeking forgiveness? It is too little too late, Mr. Parrikar. You have done irreversible damage to Goa’s secular fabric.
