At the end of most programs you see statements closed captioning sponsored by Geico (or any other big business). I thought it was the responsibility of the program to do it. But it appears its an advertisement opportunity. So nbc says knight rider needs captions, which company wants to give us money to pay for it so we can get it done and in return we will mention you and give you a quick 10 second spot. So if this is what happens then why not offer interpreting costs to large corporations. At the end of Broadway shows have an announcement tonights 3 ASL interpreters were sponsored by Geico then the theater gets paid, gives the money to ABC agency and they pay the terps. Access everyday! The captionists above were paid by nbc and nbc recoups their costs as an advertising spot. If you see me interpreting in the community think of it as a sponsorship opportunity. My black smock is gonna have decals and stickers like a race car!
