At the end of the workday Ill be making my way down to city hall to vote in the Victoria municipal elections. Dean Fortin has got my vote for mayor. One of my first interactions with Dean was when the University of Victoria Students Society (UVSS) was invited to speak to his Downtown Late Night Task Force in early 2009. We had been lobbying for years to get late night bus service on key routes, to no avail. By fall 2009, we had late night bus service on 3 routes thanks to Dean! For sustainable transportation, you wont find a better candidate than Dean. He has been a champion for LRT to the Westshore, and hes the only mayoral candidate to oppose the proposed Mackenize/TransCanada Highway interchange. Hes worked with Dogwood Initiative for years on fighting tanker traffic in BC. Hes committed to continuing to grow downtown Victoria, increase social housing and improve cycling infrastructure. Ill also be supporting these council candidates (all endorsed by the Victoria Labour Council) who will work closely with Dean on these and other issues: Ben Isitt Jeremy Loveday Erik Kaye Pamela Madoff John Luton Marianne Alto Happy voting!
