At the farmers market one of the charming Mexican vendors, with whom Im on very friendly terms, brought up the Israel-Palestinian conflict. When I expressed some disagreements with his too familiar North American perspective (misinformation, propaganda, twisted lies), he said that the Palestinians should all be killed because they are endangering the world. When I finally thought to ask him where he was getting his news from he showed me CNN on his cell phone; I recommended La Jornada or El Pais. When a cool, perfectly intelligent person believes in the logic of ethnic cleansing and genocide, you know we are living through some very dark times. Now Im off to do something fun, as Im on break. Make love, make poetry, and say no to state terrorism!
