At the first rehearsal for the DCPAs upcoming world-premiere of Appoggiatura, playwright James Still attempted to explain the origins of the play through fragments of his life. He spoke movingly of jogging in Central Park, where he was passed by a faster runner he was convinced was a younger version of himself. Later, while living in Italy, Still encountered a man every morning for months, ultimately believing him to be his great-grandfather, who had died in Kansas years earlier. Is it possible to run into a living being from our former life? Such questions are the point from which this intriguing new play has been born.
