At the invitation of my friend Kristen Swen, I did a Career Day - TopicsExpress

At the invitation of my friend Kristen Swen, I did a Career Day presentation for four classes of fifth and sixth graders this morning, talking about being both a self-employed writer and cartoonist. I was in one room; a cop was in a second room; firefighters were in a third room; and my pals Corry Kanzenberg and Jessica Ruskin from the Schulz Museum were in the fourth room. Terrific kids! Really smart and attentive. Selected questions: Q. Are you famous? A. Well, have you ever heard of me? Q. No. A. Then I guess Im not famous. Q. Do you have a girlfriend? A. I used to have a girlfriend. Then I married her. Q. Can you draw Deadpool? A. I dont really remember what Deadpool looks like. Q. He looks like Spider-Man without his webs. A. I can draw Spider-Man. Q. Can you draw Spider-Man 2099? A. I can draw Spider-Man. Q. COOL! Being able to draw for kids is wonderful. I compare it to being a magician--they always react like you just pulled 32 rabbits out of your hat. Today I drew an Iron Man, two Spider-Men, and a Hulk. At last, all the hours/days/months/years I spent locked in my bedroom as a teenager drawing superheroes pays off! Thanks, Kristen! It was fun.
