At the risk of setting Facebook on fire this afternoon, Ill throw - TopicsExpress

At the risk of setting Facebook on fire this afternoon, Ill throw this out there about torture. I have no problem using it on terrorists. By their actions they forfeit the right to be treated as human beings. I dont care if we draw and quarter them, light them on fire, or dunk them in a tank of water endlessly until they eventually drown. But... and this is a big concern... I do not support using torture as a means to determine IF someone is a terrorist. I dont support torturing an innocent person. Just like my qualified support for the death penalty, I am great using it on the guilty but I cannot abide using it on someone innocent. But, its worth the life of one innocent if torturing someone else saves a whole city, right? No. No, it isnt. Because that innocent person might be me. Or my family. Or my friends. Or someone else I love. Or someone else that someone else loves. Whomever it is, they are innocent and torturing them makes me the monster. Ultimately, despite my admitted bloodlust and desire to see bad guys suffer as they deserve, I have to oppose torture in general to make sure that the innocent remain unharmed. To summarize: Catch a bad guy committing a terrorist act, fine. Light him up. I dont care one bit. But suspect someone of being a terrorist, or having information about other terrorists, or of possibly possessing intel that might prevent a terrorist attack? No. My moral high ground demands another way. Thoughts?
