At the very beginning of his public ministry, Jesus calls; repent, for the kingdom of heaven is close at hand. Repentance is an invitation to turn away from sin, and cut off with former life for a life of holiness and goodness. Is that all? No. It also entails that we continue to be disciples,condemning the old life and assisting others who are still in the dark to also turn towards the source of light and life, Jesus. For it is not enough for me to quit smoking and be giving my neighbour money daily for buying and smoking cigarettes. Let this light illumine the society.
