At this point I dont believe the HK Police are capable of quelling this movement. Anything forceful they do will provoke more people onto the streets. And I do not believe Beijing will tolerate this. There is too much likelihood that it will spread to mainland cities. Which leaves only one possible outcome - unless there is an immediate and massive message by the international community to Beijing that such an action would be met with unacceptable consequences, the PLA may well be called in to settle things with live ammunition, and we will have another Tiananmen incident taking place, not just in one location, but potentially in various locations around the territory wherever protesters are gathered. So the question all of us here need to ask ourselves is - at such a point, what is our personal response? Skulk about in shame or go out in a blaze of glory? Or is there a middle path? And who the heck is going to look after my cats?
