At this time, 16 years ago today, during one of the most fierce snowstorms I have ever seen, Bradley Feldhaus was ready to make his grand entrance in the world. As Stephanie was on the phone with her doctor discussing her labor pains, I remember looking out the window staring at a steady snowfall with already 5 inches of snow on the ground, thinking, please not today!! As she entered the room she said her contractions were gone and doctor said to call back in the afternoon. YES!! Well, it didnt last long, as she was getting into bed, she said uh oh, I think my water broke....Panic.... She called the doctor back and he said to get to The Christ Hospital immediately. Now it is 8 am, rush hour traffic with 6 inches of snow on the ground and falling at a steadily pace...crazy. It took almost an hour to make it out of Delhi, with Stephanie screaming in agony I decided to turn the radio on to calm her down. Mark McFadden just so happened to be on Q102 asking people to call in and report anything crazy going on. Steph was on her phone talking to the nurses to help with her contractions, I decided to call Mark...lol. Well he puts me live on the radio and this is where all the fun begins. We make it all the way to the top of McMicken and a police officer decides to step in front of my car and tell me the roads are impassable and they are closed until they can be cleared. I see a clear path and tell him my wife is in labor and I have a 4x4...the officer said a plow truck will be here shortly and when it arrives I can follow him. After about 2 minutes of waiting and Stephanie screaming, I look over at her and take off and head down the hill...not good (all the while live on Q102 on speaker phone). Stephanie tells the nurse she is talking to where we were and what I did and she(the nurse) then calls the fire department. She asks if I can meet a pumper truck at the Shell station in clifton...after spinning and sliding and many attempts i finally make it to the pumper truck thats waiting for us. We get Stephanie buckled in this massive fire engine and she screams, I think he is coming. A fireman sits with her and helps with her breathing and we go sliding and spinning through clifton in a pumper truck and finally make it to the The Christ Hospital, a total of 2 hours. As we get into a room, Mark calls me back and asks how we are doing and that the phone lines were blowing up with listeners asking how we were doing, etc. As I am filling him in the nurse informs me it is time. At 11:00 am Bradley was born...with news of his birth, The firefighters were cheering outside and calls were flooding the maternity ward.Strangers sending flowers and well wishes....What an entrance!! What a day!! To top it off, as I am walking to the cafeteria with one of the firefighters, I happen to see Carl Lindner walking in the hallway. I told him about our experience and he walked all the way to the maternity viewing area to see and be one of the first people to hold him. Most of you know this, but Carl Lindner was a dear friend and he helped me with the start up of my company, he also owned a little baseball team called the Cincinnati Reds :) Shortly after that the nurse came in and asked what the full name of our child would be for the birth certificate, I blurted out.... Bradley Carl Feldhaus, We originally agreed on Bradley Alexander Feldhaus..Steph looked at me shocked and I said, for all he has done for us, lets include his name with Bradleys....Done deal.. So with all that being said, I would like to wish Bradley Carl Feldhaus a Happy 16th Birthday!! I am so proud of you and the young man you have become, I love you and I am looking forward to spending the evening with you at #JeffRubyPrecinct ..... weather permitting...lol
