At this time, BRATs would like to extend our deepest gratitude to MCEC for stepping forward and recognizing and supporting BRATs, aka Military Brats or Brats; Children of the Military. Our BRAT groups consist of all ages of Military Brats with a simple mission yet an onerous task to educate various military support groups and civilians to recognize that BRATs exist and are proud of our legacy; once a Brat always a Brat! Historically, BRATs are born and trained to silently adapt and overcome adversity and change by the life we lived, yet BRATs have gone unrecognized as the designated group or subculture that we are. BRATs, contribute daily with unending love, hugs and heartfelt well wishes of support and unsolicited acts of contributions to all service members past and present, and expect nothing in return except to be acknowledged that we are here, with unwavering first line of support to all who served or are currently serving in the military armed forces. Our goal as BRATs is to work with all groups; military, military support and civilians to recognize all BRATs, past, present and future to ensure the BRAT legacy continues to be cherished and passed down as our proud birthright and heritage bestowed upon us by our parents, as children whose parents faithfully served though out the five branches of the services; Army, Navy, Coast Guard, Air Force and Marines. BRATs, please join us in expressing our gratitude, thanking the MCEC for recognizing BRATs and our place in military history as we work diligently with others to ensure the BRATs heritage and legacy continues as the proud birthright for all future BRATs; Children of the military. Military Child Education Coalition November 25 An open letter to the BRATS community We hear you. After careful consideration, we are withdrawing our support from The Little Champs program. We endorsed the book because we believe it celebrated the strength of our children and encouraged growth after more than a decade of war. In 2011, we made a one-time purchase of 500 books, the balance of which will be removed from inventory and discarded at the end of the year. These books were never used as curriculum or training resources in any of our initiatives. MCEC never contributed to or sponsored the Little Champs tours. Teachers, Veterans, grown-up military kids, military spouses, parents of service members, and caring civilians make up the staff at MCEC. While we may not use the term “brat” in our literature, we understand and respect the importance of the name to those who grew up in a military family and the traditional pride associated with this term of endearment –many of our staff share that rich experience. This is an important dialog among people who care deeply about military families. urbandictionary/define.php?term=military+brat. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Military_brat_(U.S._subculture)
