At this time of year when we reflect on the past and make plans for the future, I hope that many of you consider what you may contribute to turn this world around as Raffi sang. We are at a pivotal time in so many arenas of human existence - climate change, public education, economic inequality, environmental destruction - and sometimes those problems can be quite overwhelming to contemplate. But if we remember the Starfish story or the Hummingbird story, I hope we will be inspired to make what little difference we can with what we have. To co-create a better world for our children, may I suggest for your consideration: 1. JOIN/DONATE to progressive organizations such as The Council of Canadians (for all of Canada) or the Dogwood Initiative (focused on BC). Both of these organizations are sustained by monthly donations although they also accept one time donations. Many progressive organizations have been under sustained attack by Harper. Any little bit of help will be significant. 2. SUBSCRIBE to progressive news organizations such as The Tyee and Rabble.ca, both also sustained by monthly donations. 3. Join the PAC at a local school. If already a member, suggest a focus beyond or instead of fundraising. 4. PARTICIPATE in a Community Round Table such as the one that has started in Chilliwack. See FB page for more info. 5. CANVASS or be a proponent for Recall. See Recall 2014-2015 FB page 6.
