At todays N.C. Board of Transportation meeting, I had the pleasure - TopicsExpress

At todays N.C. Board of Transportation meeting, I had the pleasure of honoring several of our dedicated employees for their exceptional service and hard work. I presented the Extra Mile Award to a group of transportation workers from Davie County who helped prevent possible tragedy when they stopped a wrong-way driver traveling on I-40. I thank them for their quick response and willingness to put themselves in danger to save others. I also gave Richard Dean Griffin, a Madison County Bridge Department employee, the Extra Mile Award today for going above and beyond the call of duty during a medical emergency. While clearing snow near Marshall, Griffin was flagged down by an employee of a local power company and asked to help another employee who was dangling from a power pole nearby and suffering from electrical burns. Griffin radioed for help, anchored the power pole and then helped lower the injured worker to the ground. He is truly a hero. I also accepted a national gold award from Greg Dean with ACPA and John Bridge with Archer-Western Contractors on behalf of the department for the Western Wake Freeway. The award recognizes high-quality concrete pavement work on challenging yet successful projects. Congratulations to the Turnpike Authority for this honor!
