At what point in our lives do we decide that we no longer need help? That we no longer need teachers to teach us the things we dont yet know. That we no longer need guides as we enter new and unfamiliar chapters of our lives with unfamiliar terms and language and customs. At what point do we declare, Stand back. Ive got this. Ive had all the help I need, thank you. From here on, Ill figure it all out on my own. Back off, get out of my way, cant you see Im busy struggling here? Who were the fools and charlatans who told us that help, support and guidance was for the weak and feeble? Where did we get the idea that our inescapable ignorance could only be vanquished with tremendous struggle alone in the dark and in shame; Thinking that we could only emerge from our struggles and show our faces again when we had slain all of our shadow beasts single handedly like some mythic hero that has never ever really existed, ever, in all of time. Nobody gets anywhere alone, except alone. We all need help. I was thinking about this the other day and then this from David Whyte.
