Athanasius (296-373), one of the prominent early Church Fathers, - TopicsExpress

Athanasius (296-373), one of the prominent early Church Fathers, was a bishop of Alexandria, Egypt. He contributed to defend the orthodox apostolic Christian faith in the face of Arianism that separated the humanity of Jesus Christ from the divinity of God and placed Jesus as a higher creature. He emphasized the theological idea that Jesus was a begotten (generated eternally) Son of God and contributed to form the Nicene Creed during the first ecumenical (the universal church) council in Nicaea, Turkey in 325.
