Atheists can apply the tools of reason to come to the conclusion that God is a projection of human consciousness developed by the imagination to satisfy a kind of hunger for answers that are not immediately accessible. Belief in God as a fact can be highly damaging to the Believer and those to whom the Believer is exposed as is amply demonstrated by history up to the present moment. To assert that God is and use that as a pretext for domination or manipulation of ones fellow human beings is a profound crime against humanity. To be inspired by the belief to live by precepts such as unconditional love and forgiveness is not a bad thing though, but it does not require a God to live by these precepts. In fact, humility is demonstrated by those who do not need claim to any higher authority in order to live by these precepts - unconditional love and forgiveness being among them.
