Athens Friends: I need some help with what I know some have called the Green Envelope of Doom regarding back city taxes. I was out to the loop for a while but I am now getting all this taken care of. I owe under $90 and I dont mind paying my taxes at all. What I am struggling with with the $250 in penalties. I appreciate Athens City Council and the Mayor, but it seems like they did not do their due diligence when this Ordinance went into effect and apparently for many years after...a costly oversight for the city...but it should not be for the citizens. I have sent in the check for the taxes due but am withholding the penalty payment until I have further information and conversations. Any info/feedback would be helpful.
