Athletes & musicians across the nation such as: @kingjames @kobebryant @justintimberlake are doing the #alsicebucketchallenge Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS)- also referred to as: Charcot disease, or Lou Gehrigs disease has literally soaked the nation in the past few weeks. Lou Gehrig & science icon Stephen Hawking are two individuals who have acquired this RARE nuero-degenerative disease. I am grateful to say The ALS Association is receiving support from popular social media to help expedite new treatments for people impacted by the disease. Here are 3 interesting facts about ALS: 1. ALS is a type of spinal cord degeneration that leads to combined upper & lower body movement deficits (complete movement loss of the entire body in some cases). 2. There are NO sensory, cognitive, or eye movement deficits: that is why Stephan Hawking (whom is unable to physically move), is able to think, see, hear & feel everything at optimal function. 3. ALS is the most common of the 5 main motor neuron diseases.
