Atla(s)now winter program 2014 Atla(s)now, a community-based art and ski project created by Angelo Bellobono, is now celebrating its third year of activity and is pleased to announce its busy program for January/March 2014. The season will close down on artist Andrea Nacciarriti’s work and welcome Praguian artist Adam Vackar, a new artist in residence at the Dar Toubkal and Kasbah Du Toubkal. He is the third guest invited to Imlil for the production of new art and workshops for the first Moroccan Atlas Spread Out Museum. Adam Vackar stroke us for his ability to purify the elements of contemporary life, deconstructing them into bare and unadorned objects. Starting from the analysis of the Berber civilization and the preservation of its identity, which is a prevalent theme in the work of our previous artists, it will be interesting to see how his approach will be able to undress from their purely cultural context, both the symbols and objects that characterize this community, as well as those which go by overlapping effect of the evolutionary processes. By actively cooperating with the local population and craftsmen, just like in previous experiences, he will work side by side with an ESAV student (Ecole supérieure des arts visuels de Marrakech) Ibtissam Almabchour as well as Alessandro Facente, the residency program curator, who will be offering his constructive criticism daily on the work development process. Parallely, we will continue training Oukameiden guide association members and ski instructors as well as improving the ski rental created by Atla(s)now and run by local professionals. We are also excited and proud to announce an absolute novelty, a 12-days residency in Italy offered by Atla(s)now (January 27 – February 7) to Id Ali Brahim, who, thanks to our invitation, obtained a visa to spend a ski training and exchange in Campo Felice and Ovindoli ski resorts. This important result confers a great deal of credibility upon Atla(s)now for its work on the local territory. This residency will allow Id Ali Brahim to sharpen his skills vis-a-vis other professionals. Inviting a ski instructor and guide is a fundamentals step in our project, as it represents a real connecting bridge, an arch stretching over two continents, which reinforces Atla(s)now to emphasize a key aspect of visual arts: generating thought by enriching and expanding all aspects linked to the function and definition of the role of art and the artist as well as all independent projects and the places where they unfold. The program will also include a talk among mountaineering and art professionals and an audience, which will be collected and narrated in a documentary. Finally, we are equally proud to inform you that Atla(s)now was selected as partner of the 5th Marrakesh Biennale (February 26 through March 31), as an itinerant project on the concept of the decentralization of art, its contents and containers, with the purpose of giving a local feel to the Biennale’s global nature, by concretely bridging the gap between Marrakesh and its “mountains.” The Dar Bellarj Foundation, curated by Aniko Boehler (anthropologist, Mountain Propre co-founder and director of Dar Toubkal, art and sciences research centre), will lend its space for the project. All workshops will take place here with the children and families of the Medina and a tridimensional wall will display all material tracking the development of the project during the Biennale and until its conclusion. atlasnowproject angelobellobono andreanacciarriti.net adamvackar Atla(s)now is made thanks to the generous support of: - Nando Peretti Foundation: nandoperettifound.org - Kasbah du Toubkal: kasbahdutoubkal - Mountain Propre: mountainpropre.org - Esav Marrakech: esavmarrakech
