Atlanta Board of Education approves settlement with female employees over unequal pay. The Atlanta Journal-Constitution (5/9, Niesse, 1.36M) reported that the Atlanta Board of Education “unanimously approved” a settlement agreement with two female employees who were being “paid much less” than their male counterparts. The article pointed out that Deputy Superintendent Karen Waldon’s salary increased from $165,003 to $205,000, while Chief Strategy and Development Officer Alexis Kirijan’s pay rose from $148,732 to $190,000. The pair also received back pay as part of the settlement. Moreover, under the agreement, the women cannot bring lawsuits against the board.
